Dumplings are just such a treat! I want to show you the technique that will allow you to achieve that perfect crispy crunch. As a crunchy food fanatic, it is a sure way to achieve a the most satisfying crunch.
This post will be a little different because I'll talk through all the steps first and then post an abridged version at the bottom.
Step 1: Heat the pan with oil
Its crucial here heat up the oil so that its hot. This step ensure that the dumplings won't stick to the pan. You do want to take care to not overheat the pan and begin smoking.
Step 2: Place the dumplings onto the pan
I find that it is possible to cram more dumplings into the pan if they are placed in one by one neatly. It's worth the effort!
Step 3: Mix the 1 tsp flour into 1/2 cup water, mix well, and pour evenly over the dumplings
This is the trick to getting the perfect layer of crunch.
Step 4: Cover the lid and reduce to medium-low heat
Its tempting to lift the lid for a peek, but don't do it! It helps to leave it alone for at least 5 mins then you can check.
Step 5: Check the crispiness level
Once all the liquid has dried, use a spatula to lift the dumpling up to take a look. The goal is a deep golden color with crispy edges. Take care here to not to walk away and forget it as can easily turn into charcoal.
Step 6: Flip and serve!
Enjoy the crispiness of the dumplings! Careful not to burn yourself as these pot stickers are extremely hot!
Crispy Pot Stickers
- Pan with lid
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 bag of frozen dumplings
Heat the pan with oil
Place the dumplings onto the pan
Mix the 1 tsp flour into 1/2 cup water, mix well, and pour evenly over the dumplings
Cover the lid and reduce to medium-low heat
Check the crispiness level
Flip and serve!
