BookCliff Vineyards - Palisade, Colorado

You may not have heard of Palisade when you were looking at Colorado tourism options but you certainly will enjoy the wine grown in the vineyards in the area. One of the vineyards is the BookCliff Vineyard and Winery where you will be welcome to come and see the vines and the beauty of the area along the Colorado River and underneath the BookCliff escarpment. The weather and soil combination are just right for producing quality grapes for Colorado wines.

Palisade is a short distance from Boulder where the owners of the vineyard have their winery and tasting room in the basement of their home. The state did the inspections to assure that the home met all the standards and allowed John Garlick and Ulla Merz, husband and wife, to open the facility for the public.

This area of Colorado had been filled with grape vines prior to the Prohibition. Because of Prohibition the vines were uprooted and replaced with orchards. Now, many years later, the vineyards are coming back and producing quality wines for everyone to enjoy.
